Oka Melon Seedling

Sweet, aromatic, and full of heritage, Oka Melon is a rare Canadian heirloom first developed by Trappist monks in Oka, Quebec. Known for its rich, honeyed flavour and smooth, netted rind, this early-ripening melon thrives in cooler northern climates — offering a taste of summer sunshine in every bite.

🪴 Plant Details

  • Canadian heirloom melon variety from Oka, Quebec
  • Small, round fruits with netted skin and fragrant orange flesh
  • Exceptionally sweet, juicy flavour with floral undertones
  • Short-season variety ideal for northern gardens
  • Excellent for fresh eating or chilled desserts

☀️ Growing Info

  • Full sun (6–8+ hours daily)
  • Prefers rich, well-drained soil with plenty of compost
  • Space plants 24–36” apart in rows 4–6’ apart
  • Water deeply and consistently, especially during fruiting
  • Harvest when rind becomes fragrant and stem begins to slip easily

🌿 Companion Planting Tip

Oka Melon grows beautifully with corn, beans, and nasturtiums. These companions help deter pests and attract pollinators. Avoid planting near cucumbers or squash, which can cross-pollinate and affect fruit quality. Perfect for raised beds or warm, sunny garden spots.
